Hey! Here we are today with another fantastic author, Dawn Hosmer, today! I’m excited to introduce this debut novel to you! Here is Dawn Hosmer and her debut, Bits & Pieces.
Dawn Hosmer is a wife and the mother of four amazing children, three of whom are now adults. She has spent her career in social work but had to recently stop working due to the worsening of her Crohn’s disease symptoms. She is now working full-time on her writing. She is a life-long Ohioan but loves to travel. Some of her hobbies are: getting lost in a good book, watching HGTV or true crime TV, spending time with her family and friends, playing board games and, of course, writing.
Bits & Pieces is available on Audible, KU and in paperback (soon to be released in hardback)
A chance encounter with a stranger traps Tessa within the mind of a madman.
Tessa was born with a gift. Through a simple touch she picks up pieces of others. A “flash” of color devours her, the only indication that she’s gained something new from another person. Red equals pain; purple, a talent; yellow, a premonition; orange, a painful memory; and blue, a pleasant one. Each flash blurs the lines between her inherent traits and those she’s acquired from others. Whenever she gains bits of something new, she loses more pieces of herself.
While assisting in search efforts for a local missing college student, Tessa is paralyzed by a flash that rips through her like a lightning bolt, slicing apart her soul. A blinding light takes away her vision. A buzzing louder than any noise she’s ever heard overwhelms her, penetrates her mind. As the bolt works its way through her body, images and feelings take over. Women’s dead eyes stare at her as her hands encircle their throats. Their screams consume her mind. Memories invade her of the brutal murders of five women.
Will she be able to find the killer and help save the next victim? Can she do so without completely losing herself?
Bits & Pieces is a fast-paced, riveting Psychological Suspense with supernatural elements that leaves the reader guessing until the end.
A sneak into the author’s writing process:
Two words are always at the root of everything I write – What If? Usually a real-life event triggers that question in my mind and I write as a way to try to find the answer. I am a pantser so when I sit down to write, I only have a vague idea of what the book will be about, usually starting with only one character and one plot point. Then, as the characters reveal more of themselves to me, the storyline more fully develops in my mind.
My tagline as an author is Exploring the Mind, One Book at a Time and this is what I try to do in each piece I write. I tend to write in first person so that I can go really deep into the characters’ minds to explore the why behind their actions. For me, I can go deepest into Point of View in first person.
I don’t write every day, but I try to write five out of seven days each week when I’m actively working on a book. As a writer and reader, I prefer short chapters, so, each time I sit down to write, I typically finish one chapter which equals around 1500 – 3000 words each day. I love starting a fresh idea and I enjoy writing the endings of books but tend to find more challenges in the middle of writing a novel. I force myself to write though the tough parts though, knowing that once I get over the hump, the words will flow again into something that makes sense. I am a firm believer in just getting the first draft down on paper and that the magic happens during re-writes/edits.
My second book is Contemporary Fiction entitled The End of Echoes. It will be released mid-2019. I am currently working on my third.
